I'm Hanski, the maker behind Hanski Makes. Born Hannah but had the nickname Hanski since I was 16 years old.
I founded Hanski Makes on 25 Jan 2021. (3 days into Guernsey Lockdown 2.0) when I started making polymer clay earrings for fun. I had lots of custom orders from friends for rings, bracelets and necklaces too. In just a few months I’d made over 200 pieces and learnt a lot along the way!
What started as an experiment with a block of clay turned into a brand dedicated to quirky, joyful jewellery. Every pair of earrings tells a story and so does every maker. At Hanski Makes, my mission is to be an independent jewellery brand that’s quirky, joyful and unapologetically individual. But how did it all begin? Here’s a peek behind my handmade jewellery brand.
A creative experiment quickly turned into a passion for designing handmade polymer clay jewellery that feels fun, expressive, and completely unique. I began creating pieces at home in Guernsey, playing with colour, shapes and textures and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Like many makers, I started small: just a few blocks of polymer clay, some cutters and a desire to experiment. I was instantly hooked by the material’s versatilit, the way it could transform it into bold shapes, playful patterns and lightweight pieces you could actually wear all day. Then when you add foils and glitter it’s endless!
I started after seeing a pair of earrings on Pinterest that I knew I could make myself, this quickly grew into something more. Friends and family loved my designs, and soon I was making unique, handmade jewellery that people feel excited to wear.
Every design you see has been shaped, baked, sanded, and finished by hand. No factories, no shortcuts, just real craftsmanship and a love for making something a little different.
My style is definitely experimental! I love playing with colour, patterns, textures and shape combinations. I’m in no way wedded to a particular style and I enjoy trying different techniques. Polymer clay is so versatile and when you add in glitter or metal charms the possibilities are endless! And on top of that every customer has their own style so I’m led by them too when they request custom pieces that I love making for them! I love working on commissions so if you have an idea then get in touch and we’ll work on it together.
My designs are inspired by the little things that make life fun: pops of colour, quirky shapes, and retro influences. I’ve always been drawn to jewellery as a holiday souvenir because it’s something different to what’s back home and I love jewellery that sparks conversation and makes people smile. Even on honeymoon in Ibiza I found an amazing 3 stoned ring in the airport and every time I wear it I get compliments!
Some collections are planned, others come from spontaneous play at the clay table — because for me, creativity is about exploration as much as precision and even if you do have an idea the clay doesn’t always have the same one!
Each piece of Hanski Makes polymer clay jewellery is individually handcrafted by me, which means no two are ever exactly the same. I embrace those tiny variations, they’re what make every item feel special and one of a kind.
I lean into bold colours, fun shapes, and slightly imperfect details — because that’s what makes handmade jewellery feel special and personal. And while they might look like statement pieces, they’re designed to be lightweight and comfortable enough for everyday wear.
